Some of the poetry from Love on Trial. Thx a million Girgis Kalzi

This is one of the three poems that Girgis submitted to the evening. Girgis was the winner of the two free tickets for the first Mutiny, Money on Trial. We are so glad that he liked the event so much that he wrote these poems especially for us….aaah, we love you too Girgis 🙂

Love on trial by Girgis Kalzi

This poem is for the defence of Love;

In all manners which it manifests,

And an attack on is absence in what is important.

This poem is written with several situations in mind:

Palestine: Until Palestine can love itself, Israel will never show affection, helping Palestine will always be seen as ‘defection’.

Sudan: Diversity, its built into us now, we can’t destroy ourselves to keep Oil companies around.

Uganda: Who cares what myths you read, if Gays aren’t bothering you why not ‘turn the other cheek’?

Saudi Arabia: Love for women in KSA is misguided, so a woman can buy a car but can’t drive it?

America: Love one another as God ‘loves’ you, no matter if they’re black or brown, red or blue.

L o v e i s I n n o c e n t:

Love is a woman, so gentle, tender and sweet, A fighter, with sweat dripping down from her cheeks,

Love is a patient student, always on her feet, Yet before her work is due, never contemplating defeat,

Love needs time, love needs no rhyme, Love is more than just reading and interpreting signs,

Love is natural, it is never a sin, and Love is misunderstood in every context it’s in,

Love needs a lover, love needs a loved, Love needs nothing else, no man from above,

Love needs no defence, no judge of jury, yet it’s on trial today, so I’m just doing my duty,

Love lets us imagine without borders or walls, Love gives but takes back nothing at all,

Love burns when it dies, Love aches when it cries, Love can be seen in the loss in a Palestinians eyes,

Love is not mere ecstasy but sheer sacrifice, love is smiling in acceptance of your own demise,

Open minded, you never know what you’re looking for until you find it

Virtue, only in its absence can love every hurt you

Eternal hope, Love lets us breath, and cope, and Love is climbing down from the chair, and untying the rope,

If you’re not looking to love then you’re a liar, but love is the air, not some imaginary messiah,

Seldom does love need money; we need money to feed greed and pride, covering up what we feel inside,

Imagine understanding without retribution, realise love is the catalyst for all resolution,

Never just romance, its picking up the litter and cleaning up after the dance,

Never stopping at the lights, who says being with another race or religion isn’t right?

Opens the door to understanding, to patronise is to leave

Comes and sweeps you off your feet, with every word and every breath she makes you melt in your seat,

Every atom, every sinew and every enzyme, love is an irresistible force whether by nature of design,

No crime in being gay, who’s place is it to tell you it is anyway?

Things are what they are, but passion is what drives us to examine, go in depth, travel so far

So free love from all it’s shackles,

Love didn’t commit any of these debacles,

It’s name was used, just like Jesus, God and Islam,

By a select group of zealots who wish its followers nothing but harm,

Selling hearts on cards but love is in the mind,

Lets start a new chapter, leaving the old baggage behind!

Long Live Love!

Musa Okwonga, poet extraordinaire plays Love

So pleased to have Stop the War supporter, Musa Okwonga, play Love on Trial.

This is what he says on his Myspace:

“Some are from the streets, from crews like So Solid;

I’m from refugees, Eton is my college:

Posh but no dosh; yes, I guess that’s ironic,

I don’t fight with knives or mics, I write sonnets…

Many mates from school pursue familiar fates;

They’re chasing millions, instead I’m craving William Blake –

So while these cats get fatter, I stay as thin as a rake

Wishing to show life as a poet’s not a silly mistake

And still here I wait, using the tube, not a limousine,

Paycheque is small, not like that footballer Zinedine’s,

Patience is low, ambitions high as the Pyrenees –

Lyrically I’m weak; I need to write more similies…

Seriously, those poor folk who don’t know Benin City

Don’t know what they’re missing, so we look at them in pity,

Poetry spoken over beats like you’ve never heard it:

Passionate chat, drum, bass and sax; the mixture’s perfect.”

See you tomorrow…

Love on Trial – Millions Accuse Love of Unfairness and Deception – Read All The Juicy Details!

This article highlights what many individuals have done to Love: They have hauled Love to court and put her on Trial – Now it’s up to the Judge and Jury to give their verdict. Read about it here, in this unique and one-of-a-kind article.

(Mutiny found this brilliant little piece of wit at

The court room was jam-packed, while thousands gathered in the street outside to hear the fate of Love. Love arrived at exactly 9.30 a.m., that morning, and was escorted into the court surrounded by four (4) armed policemen …….accused by millions of lies and inequity in its role as a benefactor of the people.

While this scene transpired, many questioned:

“Would Love be found guilty, charged and lost in jail? Or would she be freed to function with business as usual?”

All evidence seemed to purport Love’s guilt and conviction.

That dreaded day, accuser after accuser took the witness stand to give their testimonies against Love, while Love silently looked on; undaunted by many who blamed Love for their loss and pain, and sought for justice. “Love must be made to pay for all the pain I’ve gone through” they vowed……

Dear readers, the intention of this article is to only focus on what Loves’ accusers charge, and how Love responded to those allegations.

The following is a summary of just two (2) of those accusations, and love’s defense to them.

— The first accuser to take the witness stand was: Hurt

Hurt said, “I believed in Love’s promises, initially, and opened my heart to let love in…only to have love bring pain……How could I think good thoughts about Love, anymore, when Love has left me with a broken heart?”

“After what Love did to me, I don’t ever want to know Love again. In fact, I’m going to pass Love straight whenever I see her. And I won’t recommend Love to anyone, again.”

Friends, in defense, Love’s reply was:

“Hurt, I am not the reason why you were brokenhearted. It was your lack of knowledge, understanding and experience about relationships, which brought you your own pain – Not me.”

“If you are honest with me, I’m sure you will agree that you didn’t listen to my counsel when I tried to warn you, or sent others to instruct you…..that you were making a mistake by forming a romantic relationship with the guy you claimed I chose for you, but you didn’t take my warnings.”

“You allowed your feelings to dictate your decisions. And now you have received a broken heart, you blame me for your position?”

“Hurt, it’s time to take responsibility for your own actions, and stop blaming Love for your poor decisions.”

“It’s your lack of knowledge and experience about relationships that caused you pain – Not me. Because you failed to practice the basic tenets of Love, you paid with a broken heart. I did not send a broken heart. My rules actually protect you from experiencing a broken heart.”

–‘Hurt’ left the stand to allow Love’s next accuser: Low Self Esteem, to testify.

And as Low Self Esteem took the stand, he shouted, “Love you have your favorites. You only show favor to a selected few!”

“Because I’m ugly, and have an average paying job you disliked me, and honored prestigious individuals, instead. How can you say, you’re impartial, when it’s clear you only choose the pretty/handsome and upper class?”

“Love you’re not for me. So I won’t waste my time on you – To hell with you!”

Friends, Love’s response to Low Self Esteem stormy outbursts was typical of Love’s character.

“Low Self Esteem, my favors are for all. I am not a respecter of persons. It’s your wrong beliefs about me, which have given you the life you now live. You will only have what you believe. If you believe that I am only favorable to the good-looking and upper class, then you will not give me a chance to prove myself, or allow me to freely share my gifts with you.”

“Remember, you are God’s creation, and everything He made was good. How can you then call yourself ugly, when He sees you as the apple of His eyes?”

“And how can you say that Love is only favorable to the upper class? If you had really known me, you would have known that Love cannot be bought. She always gives herself freely to others, expecting nothing in return. If someone showed up at your door, and said they know me, but is subtly concerned about how much money you possess, or are working for – They don’t know me. Because I am not about Money, my aim is the heart of individuals……..”

Friends, I have to close this article on this note, but the short and long of it is: Love was proven: ‘Not guilty’. And was free to continue her good works, everywhere…Don’t be surprise to see Love shows up at your door volunteering to help you, even if you had been one who had the world of negative things to say about Love.

Such is the nature of Love.
